about

This Pacific-Northwestern power trio revels in energy,
probing at the fringes of improvisation and creative rock
music, while discovering new territory in the process. Shoup
has worked with Thurston Moore, LaDonna Smith, Nels Cline,
and a countless range of other musicians in his long run as
a master, iconoclastic improviser of the underground. Horist evokes Rowe, Frith, and Bailey, yet his voice harnesses the existing language to offer up an entirely new take on the prepared guitar. Kikuchi's range of expressive percussion techniques tie the unit together- he swings
freely while expanding the trio's palette with a vast array
of supplemental percussion instruments.

This trio digs into the diverse
sonics afforded by prepared guitar, saxophone, and
percussion, with superlative technical skills augmented
by a dazzling range of advanced extended techniques.
Somewhere between no wave and free jazz, you have Chemical
Language- anyone with a proclivity for challenging,
uniquely structured, propulsive improvised music should
take note.
